PRESCOTT RECREATION

The YMCA (750 Whipple St., 928/445-7221) has three year-round indoor pools, one mainly for lap swimming, one for diving, and one with a 150-foot water slide. Or swim at the indoor Yavapai College pool (1100 E. Sheldon St., 928/776-2175); ask for directions at the visitor center on your right as you enter campus. Play tennis at Yavapai College, at Prescott High School (on Ruth St.), or next to Ken Lindley Field (E. Gurley and Arizona Sts.).
    Twenty-three miles to the north, Summit Snowplay offers wintertime fun in the snow at the 7,023-foot pass on AZ 89A between Prescott and Jerome. Inner tubes and plastic dishes can be used, but no sleds. The site has paved parking, toilets, and a $5/vehicle fee. In summer it's open as the Summit Picnic Area (no fee).
    Golfers play on the 36-hole course at Antelope Hills Golf Course (8 miles north of town on AZ 89, 928/776-7888 or 800/972-6818) next to the airport. The town of Dewey, 14 miles east on AZ 69, offers two 18-hole golf courses, Prescott Golf & Country Club (928/772-8984 or 800/717-7274, www.prescottgolf.net) and Quailwood Greens Golf Course (928/772-0130).
    Granite Mountain Stables (northwest of town off Williamson Valley Rd., 928/771-9551) offers hourly, all day, moonlight, and overnight rides year-round, plus lessons.
