Enjoy movies at WME Show Low (1850 S. White Mountain Rd., 928/367-7469), one mile south on AZ 260. Thunder Raceway (4701 E. Deuce of Clubs, 928/537-1111) offers a variety of automotive racing from March to October.
Show Low Days in June puts on an arts and crafts fair along with a classic car show in the city park. Show Low celebrates July Fourth with a parade and fireworks. In December, the town hosts an Electric Parade and dresses up in bright lights to celebrate the holidays. Softball tournaments and other events take place throughout the year; consult the Show Low Chamber of Commerce.
The city park (951 W. Deuce of Clubs, 928/532-4130 Family Aquatic Center, 928/532-4140 Show Low Parks and Recreation) offers a year-round program of activities, an indoor swimming pool, picnic areas with ramadas, a playground, and tennis, basketball, softball, racquetball, and volleyball courts.
Play golf at the 18-hole Show Low Golf Club (860 N. 36th Dr., near the intersection of AZ 260 and Old Linden Road on the west side of town, 928/537-4564) or at the 18-hole Silver Creek Golf Club (White Mountain Lakes, 5 miles east on US 60, then 7.5 miles north on Bourdon Ranch Road, 928/537-2744).
Show Low has a good selection of chain and independent motels along Deuce of Clubs. The summer rates given usually come down a bit in winter.
Under $50: Kiva Motel (261 E. Deuce of Clubs, 928/537-4542, $42 s, $45 d) offers a hot tub and sauna.
$50-100: Best Western Paint Pony Lodge (581 W. Deuce of Clubs, 928/537-5773 or 800/937-8376, $70-80 d) includes breakfast. Days Inn (480 W. Deuce of Clubs, 928/537-4356 or 800/329-7466, $66 s, $71 d) has a restaurant and a year-round hydro-jet pool. Holiday Inn Express (151 W. Deuce of Clubs, 928/537-5115 or 800/465-4329, $100 d) offers an indoor pool and hot tub. KC Motel (60 W. Deuce of Clubs, 928/537-4433 or 800/531-7152, $45-69 d) has Victorian decor along with a hot tub.
Both tenters and RVers can camp at Fool's Hollow Lake and Show Low Lake, which are also the best choices for families. The RV and mobile home parks in the area cater to seniors and include Waltner's RV Resort (four miles south on AZ 260, left half a mile on Show Low Lake Road, then left to 4800 S. 28th St., 928/537-4611, open May 1-Oct. 15, $28 RV w/hookups and tax) and Rim Crest RV Resort (4.4 miles south on AZ 260, 928/537-4660, open April 15 to Oct. 15, $20 RV w/hookups).
Look for restaurants along Deuce of Clubs and south on AZ 260. High in the Pines Deli (1191 E. Hall St., 928/537-1453, Mon.-Sat. for breakfast and lunch, $6-11) is a European-style coffee house with a wide range of sandwiches along with salads, soups, deserts, and some breakfast items; head two blocks south on White Mountain Boulevard from the highway junction, then turn right one block on Hall.
Branding Iron Steak House (1251 E. Deuce of Clubs, 928/537-5151, daily for lunch and dinner, $8-37) offers prime rib and seafood as well as a lineup of steaks. Licano's Mexican Food & Steakhouse (573 W. Deuce of Clubs, 928/537-8220, daily for lunch and dinner, $9-25) serves a variety of Mexican food, steaks, other meat dishes, and seafood.
Dine Chinese at Asia Garden Restaurant (59 W. Deuce of Clubs, 928/537-9333, Tues.-Sun. for lunch and dinner, $7-11) and the buffet-only China Moon Buffet (4 miles south on AZ 260 at 4817 S. White Mountain Rd., 928/537-8828, Mon.-Sat. for lunch and dinner, about $6).

Folks will tell you about accommodations and other services at the Show Low Regional Chamber of Commerce (81 E. Deuce of Clubs, Show Low, AZ 85901, 928/537-2326 or 888/746-9569, www.showlowchamberofcommerce.com, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sat.-Sun.); it's in a shopping center on the southeast corner of Deuce of Clubs and Central Avenue. The public library (180 N. 9th St., 928/532-4070, closed Sun.) now has a larger facility at this new location.
The post office (191 W. Deuce of Clubs, 928/537-4588) is near the center of town. Navapache Regional Medical Center (2200 E. Show Low Lake Rd., 928/537-4375) lies next to Wal-Mart, four miles south of Show Low on AZ 260 on the way to Pinetop-Lakeside.
Getting There and Around
Airline service may be available—check with the chamber. Mountain Valley Shuttle (1141 E. Cooley St., Suite B, 928/537-4539, mountainvalleyshuttle.blogspot.com) offers bus service Mon.-Sat. from Show Low to Heber, Payson, Mesa, and Phoenix. Four Seasons Bus Connection (928/537-0627, closed Sun.) serves local routes in the Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside areas and goes to Hon-Dah.
